Tomorrow is the last day of until we come back from the winter break. I can Finally catch up on all my subject and get ready for the exams.

Today in class, I changed my bouncing ball assignment so that it becomes more efficient. I worked on the Tracing the Widow assignment, I manged to get half of it done.

Test review

Today, we worked in twos and came up model answers for our test. What I like about this is that it gives us a chance to acknowledge our mistakes and how to improve next time.

Our class had our second programming test today, it was..........interesting. I did not know that we are suppose to have a test today until someone asked me " Did you study for the ICS test? " Well, you can imagine what my expression was like......O.o

After the test, Mr. Arkin introduced a bit of graphic info to us, it seems fun ^_^

Anyways, on Friday, our group worked together to enhance our programming skills.........let's just say that went well..........

I decided to redo all my substring assignment, since I have all the time in the world. It's not like the science lab report, the French test, or the English essay is going to keep me busy................

We continued working in a group of four and made process towards making our self into a level four programmer.

It is a really good opportunity for us to enhance our programming skill because we can discuss our knowledge and difficulties with like-minded people. That made our process of learning a lot easy.

Today, each class is only 40 minutes. Mr.Arkin explained some of the substring assignment to us, which made things a lot clearer. um......that's about it. It's so hard to type with one hand ( don't ask ).

Quiz on Friday

We will have a substring assignment quiz on Friday. I wish Mr.Arkin could explain it before we are quized on it, but thanks to my awesome classmates, I now have basic understanding of the function and use of substring. I think the propose of the quiz is to encourage student to work on the assignments more in class.........well, that clearly worked, there's more people asking question and more people concern about the assignments. For example, someone is actually talking to the computer due to their frustration............

This is the second time that I forgot that today is a late start................=_=.
Anyways, Mr.Arkin is not here today again, so we had another work period.

WORK PERIOD

"Work period" I have probably used this title for millions of times.............well Mr. Arkin is away today so we have a work period. We have to read the substring page thingy and do the substring assignments as much as we can.

Substring is a subset of characters treated as a whole. An example of the assignment (question )would be : Gather a word from the user and display its letters one per line. That is when the power of substring come in.

Turing show off !

Today in class we had our turing show off, which is when someone want to show their program to the class..........well, no one wanted to do it, so Mr. Arkin showed one of his "short" program. It's really cool, and short.........if you can call 350 line of code short.

Today we got our mid-term mark!!!  I did ok in every subject except for ICS, it shows that I need to work harder on it.  :p

Anyways, array can be really useful because it saves the programmer's time and effort from typing the varibles and prompts over and over again.

WORKING ON REPETITION

It's another work period, we get to work on our repetition assignment. I finished up to assignment 10, it was not really hard, so it means I am getting better at programing. ^_^

Reviste of HTML

     We got another HTML assignment after what feels like a year since what did HTML stuff. Not that I have a problem with it ^_^. To be honest, I am probably one of the few people who actually like HTML more than turing. Well, out assignment is called Printer Comparison assignment.
      We also have to modify our repetition assignment number 8, which I already complete.

50th POST!!

OMG!!! This is my 50th blog posting and guess what, this year is Vic Park 50th anniversary. *clap* *clap*
I am soooo hyper today, probably because too much coffee.

Well, we did in class was  the repetition assignments. First, we switched our assignment number 6 with a partner and we have to desk check it and give feedbacks. After, we continuted to work on the rest of the assignments. I spend alomost the whole class working on assignment 6, just to make it perfect. ^_^

First thing we did in class today was complete a survey, it is about what you like about ICS class and what you do like and what you want to see in the future. I think it is very useful because it gives Mr. Arkin an idea of what way students like to be taught.

Second of all, we were suppose to hand in one of our best repetition assignment for Mr. Arkin to mark. For mine, I made a few mistakes. I did not put the varibles in alphabetical orders.

For homework, we have to complete repetition assignment 5, 6, and more if you can.

A day to catch up

The first thing I did when I waited outside my ICS class was look at my mid-term average O_O.......all I am going to say is that that are a lot of room for improvement, and have to work harder.

In class, it was a work period for the people when finished their repetition assignment to work on the rest of the questions and for those who did not or did it wrong, they get to correct their work. Mr. Arkin gave us a model code repetition assignment 2, that helped me a lot because my code was kind of long, so that helped me make mine more efficient. For homework, we have to finish repetition assignment 3,4 and 5, and print the code out.

I am working on assignment 5, wish me luck ^_^!

Finally! repetition! the "Introduction to repetition." is actually pretty easy, I understand what Mr.Arkin was teaching and finished 1 of 4 part of the homework for the weekend in class. We took note of some statement of repetition code and some key word that is contains. Some examples would be loop, exit, when.

Remembrance day

We had our remembrance day assembly today.

In class, we made a model answer sheet for our unit test, it made me realize how much questions I did not explain fully. We got our test back right after...........have to do way better next time.

Monday : Group Presentations + party

We had to present our poster that we did for the elements of Mr. Arkin's selection assignment 7 code, our group went last. Since, groups are not allow to repeat what the previous group have said, we did not have a lot of info to say. I also learned thing that our group did not wrote on the poster from that other groups.

We got our quiz back today as well....... I made the simplest mistake, I am sure it won't happen again.

Despite that we have a test soon, we had a party today!!!!

Desk checking

Today for ICS, we desk checked Mr.Arkin's model Selection Assignment #6. Well, as you guys already know, the skill of desk checking is very important, you will NEED it in order to succeed in ICS. Apparently,
our exam is going to take place in a room that has no computer what so ever, so what we can do in DESK CHECK!!!
For homework, we have to desk check three of our selection assignment just to practice desk checking, I am actually doing my fourth one now. I didn't think I would say this, but it is kind of fun. ^_^

Today in class, we learned some new keywords, which are case and loop.

Rouge Valley!!

I didn't have class today, I went on a science trip to Rouge Valley!!!! It was really fun and I learned a lot of stuff. My friends told me that the homework is all the selection assignment are due on Monday, I already finished 1-8.

Selection

We learned about programming - selection today. We also learned how to write an if statement, using key words such as "if ", "then", "end if" and "else".

An example

Oh yeah! We had a pop quiz today.......... the question was not hard, according to other people, but I needed more time!!!!! I didn't get to finish the output selection.

INPUT

Well, it turn out that I made a few mistake on the input assignments that we did over the weekend, but I finally understand it now. I have to say, it is not that hard if you understand how it works. I am working on the input assignment #4 and #5, I already finished #5, and still working on #4. I am pertty confident that I did it right, even though I was having trouble with the previous questions. Programming it really fun ( also confusing sometime), but I still likes web designing better. I had time over the weekend so I changed my index page. Now, it look perfect for Halloween.

Variable

We learned more terms for programming. First, we took up the asterisk assignment, it turned out that my way of making the broder was so much harder than Mr.Arkin 's way, I got a lot to learn. We learned about variable, which is a named location in memory(RAM) suitable for the storage of data of a specified type. We also learned about parameter, which Mr. Arkin made us repeat three time.
I am working on the assignment that Mr. Arkin assigned us.

Note book divider

Yesterday, we talked about note book dividers and how we need a divider for programming; glossaries; HTML and CSS code; program code, guess I need to shop for more dividers over the weekend. We also went over more glossary terms in class and was told to review them when we get home. Some examples of the terms would be output-field width, concatenation operator and etc. We also learned about subprogram and a sequence. For that night's assignment, we had to make a border using asterisk, which is "*". I think mine looks alright, but there are too many code of procedures.

Same as the class on Friday, we learned more basic computer terms. Some example would be byte, RAM, and Bit, etc. I added the terms to my basic glossary.html. We also recivied a new password which no one is going to post it online, well, hopefully.

Almost done my Autobiograhy

Almost done!!!! My autobiography.
I finished the paragraph for my super power, which is about the power to view the future.
And I am almost done formatting with my CSS, while I already finished the skeleton of my assignment, I can focuse on smaller details, like the font of my text etc.
The one thing that I fell the best about is that I vaildated my HTML, and My CSS so far.
A lot of work to do !

FPT AND HTTP

We took notes about client-server paradigm,and an outline of HTTP and FPT.

 The assignment was set to be due on Wednesday, I really have to work on it today, a lot.

Studio 218

         We didn't have lab218 today, we had Studio218, which is basiclly class with music. The DJ for today is Mr Arkin, he played some song from the album The Orchard, I really enjoy it. I wonder who is going to the DJ next friday. For homework, I read about Understanding client server architecture. Some names are very unfamilier for me, so I looked it up and now, I understand the basic meaning of the text.
        Continuing to work on my super power assignment, with the same procedure - edit and vaildat.
My goal for this weekend is to finish the super power assignment ( I just don't know if it's possible)

Autobiography paragraph

         We learned about Windows OS interface which increase efficiency with keyboard shortcuts. Those are pretty much review for me, I knew all of the shortcut except for the alt-space-n for minimize.
          I also read the Word-processing page which tells me how my webpage should have or not have, that was very useful.
          Despite have a french test tomorrow, I mange to complete the paragraghs of my super power assignment.
If i have more time, I would start validating the new codes that I wrote. Knowing that it is going to taking a long time, I might start to so it today instead of make my weekend packed with homework.

Validation-my worst enemy

        After using the HTML validater, the system found 23 error........ I tried to correct the first error, i manage to reduce the errors down to 13, after which seems like a million tries, i finally got a valid HTML file.
I had to repeat the steps over and over again everytime I add something new, I sensing a very busy weekend is waiting for me. Deciding to take a short break on HTML, I started writing the paragraph of my super power assignment, which is going to be a surprise, or not.
       First time of silent reading, I really enjoyed it. Over all, it was a good day.

A bad Locker day......

           I had to use 15 mins of the computer class to fix my locker, hopefully that won't happen again.
Luckly, Mr. Arkin was only talking about the INDEX. HTML work, which i already did, so i didn't miss anything new.
Validating my HTML anf CSS code were very frustrating work, but I guess once I get more comfortable writing the codes, I will make less mistakes.
Everytime I edit my codes, a few new errors would pop up and I have to correct it again, but i believe that it is all worth it when my own website is complete. It might not look that good compares to other webs you see online, but it is my first step toward web designing.

Using Filezilla

          Our homework was to use File Zilla and post the "Wikispaace ID" and a link to your blog.
To do so, you need to down File Zilla first, and that's what I did. After saving and runing the programme, I type in the password and was successfully logged on to <ftp32.bravehost.com>. From there, I opened a note pad and wrote the code that will represent the information that are needed, which looked something like this:

starting my Super-power Autobiography

I was having a lot of trouble with adding a background to my webpage in class today.
But after going home and searched up more information online, i manged to put a background picture on my webpage using CSS.
I also tried to create a link, that worked pretty well.
My next step would be choose a super power that i want to do and start to design the web page,
I want it to be well organized and stand-out amount the others, I well try my best to do so!

My first site!

We had a guest teacher today at ICS, she was very nice towards us, and the student hosts did their best to help her with any problems. The whole lesson went well!

I started making my webpage use information from touque.ca and I managed to complete a very basic webpage in the class. The webpage contents a title and a paragraph with different fonts and a pink background, I think I am getting better at using the  formats of HTML and CSS. ^_^

i learned so much today!

Today, at ICS, we learned how to make a very basic webpage using HTML,and CSS.
A lot of information, but with a little pratice, I can began to make my very own and very first webpage now!
basically, in older to make the texts appear on the webpage, you have to fill in the "containers", which look
something like this: <head> </head>.
There's a start tage and a end tag which creats a container, all you have to do is fill that with the text you want and click open file, than you got yourself a simple looking webpage.

Of course that only a little of what we learned today, I can't wait to put knowledge in to action.
We are also going to have a guest teacher for 2 days beacuse Mr. Arkin have Rosh Hashanah to celebrate,
